Another week, another fight and event with major implications.
Rising welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger is on the cusp of a title shot if he beats Martin Kampmann tomorrow night, but it's not clear if he should or will get it. All the while, a tragedy occurred in an unregulated MMA bout in South Dakota.
To help sort out what these and other issues mean, Dave Doyle and I get our hands dirty in another edition of The MMA Roundtable.
1. If J...

Update on Alex Shelley Possibly Joining WWE
- Sources close to Alex Shelley report that he did receive phone calls from WWE recently but reports of him signing with WWE or even agreeing to terms are said to be premature. The same sources say that Shelley allowing his TNA contract to expire had nothing to do with WWE.
Shelley’s original plans when deciding to leave TNA were to work for New Japan Pro Wrestling and maybe Dragon Gate USA. WWE did recently show interest and he was not expecting that to happen when he let his TNA deal expire. Shelley had been working on a deal with New Japan for some time and was apparently close to signing it...

Heavyweight Rankings: Junior dos Santos Laps Pack
Nine straight wins in the UFC. Seven via stoppage. Five over competitors ranked in the Top 10.
At this stage, there's no doubt about it: Junior dos Santos is on the greatest heavyweight run in UFC history.
The most impressive overall heavyweight streak in the sport's history, of course, belongs to Fedor Emelianenko.
But given the level of dominance the Salvador, Brazil resident has displayed in the Octagon, and the absence of damage he's taken in the process, it's conceivable that sometime down the road, dos Santos could potentially wrest that crown as well, given that he's not likely to face the freak-show fighters and middleweights that appear a bit too often on the Russian great's record.
But ...

Morning Report: Shane Carwin Eyes Return, Rich Franklin Enshrined in 'Company Man' Hall of Fame
It's getting harder to think Rich Franklin isn't just Captain America incarnate. If you ever needed any extra proof of the man's astounding sense of loyalty and devotion to his employers, take a look at yesterday.
With the UFC in dire need of a replacement headliner for their crumbling Brazilian pay-per-view -- you know, the one that started out with declarations of Silva-Sonnen II and Belfort-Silva II in an 80,000 seat soccer stadium, and now sports Mike Russow on the poster for a 20,000-ish seat arena -- the promotion called on the quintessential company man, Mr. Franklin, to abandon his
